If you're looking at this guide we presume you're an avid fan of the stupid things you can get up to in Garry's Mod, but you want a server don't you. Well, look no further as we will provide all the info you need to get started in hosting your own Garry's Mod server.
First off you don't want to overpay for your server. If you only want 10 people to play on your server then only pay for 10 slots. You also want full control of your server right? Well all server hosts coming up give you full control of your server with their amazing control panels.
Another thing you will want is a server close to you, not across the world. In case you didn't know how servers work, the further you or your players are from a server the worse the connection they will get so make sure you choose a host who offers servers around the world so your server is accessible to people all around the world, and yourself of course.
It's important to trust who you host with, you don't want them stealing your data or suddenly shutting your service down so who do you know to trust? Firstly is the price to performance ratio. If the host you're looking at is offering a server which sounds too good to be true for an extremely big bargain then something's up. Don't always pick the cheapest option.
Another thing is support. If your host doesn't offer 24/7 support then how do you expect to upkeep your server for your players? With 24/7 support you can trust that your host will be on as soon as possible to fix your issues.
You don't want your players to have terrible ping and constantly complain to you do you? As stated before the location of your server is a key aspect which will increase the speed and performance for you and your players.
Another thing that increases speed is server hardware. All servers listed have top server CPUs such as Intel XEON processors and are running the latest software and in case you're a complete noob at computing, this means your server will load faster and run faster for you and your players.
Last but not least is server uptime. Whilst uptime doesn't necessarily increase the speed of your server it will prevent your players from having that moment of "aww, the servers down" and joining a different server.
Most people assume all hosting is the same, it isn't. You'll want to pick a service which addresses all of your and your player's needs as switching hosts is a hassle. Most people will go straight for the cheapest server but this isn't always the best choice. With cheap servers comes cheap performance and you don't want that do you?
Another mistake people make when setting up their hosting is the control panel. The control panel has one of the biggest impacts on how you run your server so if you neglect the control panel you're neglecting your players. Control panels give you access to the DNS you use and allow you to choose addons and plugins for your server.
